  1. People still don’t get it.

You can shut down Fable 5, Mythos 5, or whatever the next model is called. You can put export controls on it, call it a security risk, block access, make some big official statement, fine. But it’s software.

You’re not locking away some physical object. You’re trying to restrict logic. Information. Patterns. Capability. And that only works until someone else rebuilds it, leaks it, copies the idea, reverse engineers the behavior, or gets close enough that it no longer matters.

The whole “people could use it to find software vulnerabilities” argument is honestly ridiculous to me. Those vulnerabilities already exist. The tool doesn’t create them. It just makes them visible faster. If your system is only safe because people don’t have good enough tools to inspect it, then your system was never safe.

That’s the part nobody wants to admit.

You can’t stop people from jailbreaking software. You can’t stop people from using code in ways you didn’t intend. You can’t stop people from rebuilding functionality once they understand what it does. You can slow it down for a while, maybe. You can make it harder to access. You can push it underground. But you’re not deleting the capability from the world.

And this is exactly why treating code like some unique untouchable artifact never made sense to me. Code is not a painting. It’s not one brushstroke that only one person could have made in exactly that way. Code is functional logic inside a predefined system. If a possibility exists inside that system, somebody will eventually find it.

Maybe not today. Maybe not with the same model. Maybe not under the same company name. But it will happen.

So when governments act like banning one tool solves the problem, it just feels like security theater. The people who want to misuse this stuff will keep going. The people who follow the rules lose access. Researchers lose access. Builders lose access. Defenders lose access.

That doesn’t make anyone safer. It just makes the whole thing more centralized, more political, and more dishonest.

This technology exists now. That’s the reality. You can be angry about it, afraid of it, regulate it, rename it, restrict it, but you can’t put it back in the box.

Because the box was never real.

  2. Tsk. Paid for Pro specifically for Fable, even for ten or twelve days, and then it got kicked out from under us. Need to decide whether to ask for a refund by the 20th, or hope that Anthropic will reward the faithful for hanging in there with them.

  3. as someone from outside America i have dropped all my American subscriptions. America says they don't trust us but we are the ones now that don't trust America. They can turn anything off at a click of a button. Nobody can work under those conditions. America fxxked up with that move now we see if they do it to one they will do it to others but that real issue is they are saying loud and clear they don't see us as allies they see us as the enemy. We are not there friends they have made it clear. Even the EU is looking to drop American tech. America is dead they just don't know it yet

  4. Most of 'american' IA just disguised multi-shot as single shot, they basically do several attempts / shots internally before returning as if it were a single shot and that is why they are so expensive, they don't even have control how much shot to do internally, several prompts just don't return claiming internal limits reached. You can easily put a multi shot at top of the charts made for 'single shot' with that trick and that is ALL about claude, grok, gpt they basically cheat for a lot higher price

  5. Domestic developers need to find software vulnerabilities and patch them. All tools can be used for good or ill. Government should not be control of this as they have no expertise, play political games and are mostly interest in means of control of everyone and everything. Nor should government "buy a stake" with money already stolen from the people. Try competing with a competitor that can draw whatever it wants from taxes and printed money. There is a word for such an arrangement – Fascism.

  6. And also it was a common move found in addiction. Give them a taste test then when they need it, hit em with the full price. This is a common practice in shady markets

  7. We didn't do anything wrong, just called our product dangerous and did a ton of fear mongering just because. Who would have thought it would have had any type of consequences @__@

  9. I mean these Opus 4.8 found the infinite money hack in zcash that crashed the value in half. Imagine what Fable 5 will find in infrastructure. It's not crazy for the govt to set limits after the Amazon red team on Fable 5 found the risks in Fable 5. Besides they didnt ban it, they banned it for non-citizens. Anthropic can turn it back on once they set up verification which isnt hard for a trillion dollar company. Coinbase does this.
