Actually, a naive question, why is this better than just normal Claude 3.5 sonnet with fairly precise prompting? Doesn’t claude dev also just an already existing LLM that either is Claude 3.5 sonnet or most likely worse to actually do the „intelligence“ and coding part?

As chats gets longer, so does the context window. As the context window gets longer, Claude 3.5 starts losing track of instructions, and it’s coding ability gets worse. Eventually it becomes necessary to start a new chat. By giving Claude Dev the ability to do more autonomously, such as the ability to inspect the local server, my context window fills up quickly with alot of unnecessary and unuseful inspections. I now often find myself sitting around watching Claude Dev autonomously inspecting files that I already know are a dead ends (because Claude Dev inspected them in a previous chat) and there doesn’t even seem to be a way to interrupt Claude Dev when it’s on one of these investigations. I just have to sit and watch as my tokens disappear in $0.02 increments while Claude Dev repeats the same inspection steps over and over.
Hmm…. I guess that is two more issues.
The ability to use a browser has been impressive, but I have also experienced this new update causing Claude to get stuck in infinite loops; something that was never a problem previously. Even when it doesn’t get stuck in an infinite loop, it often wastes time and credits inspecting the app that I’m working on. I can inspect the local host myself. I don’t need Claude Dev inspecting my local host autonomously. The only time Claude Dev should be inspecting the local server is when I’m explaining an issue that can be best explained by looking at the web page. This update was ambitious but giving Claude Dev too much agency is taking away control from the human, and making Claude Dev slower, burns through tokens faster, and more verbose chats.

Until they do not enter new models i won't use it. No, Route LLM or Openrouter is not for me, not another place to enter our credit card to pay for AI on another X numbers of platforms.
How does the "@" files/folders thing work? Is it populating a vector db or something under the hood? I've been really impressed with its ability to take huge amounts of code into consideration.

Is it possible to select specific file changes before you approve them? Several times it's deleted a bunch of code and replaced it with a comment saying existing code remains the same, or something to that effect.
