It seems to be limited in terms of how much complexity it can handle. I tried a simple python Flask REST backend (about 6-7 endpoints). When I asked it to add a database to store user-data, session-state etc., while refactoring into separate files (as it was putting everything in a single .py file), it gave up saying that the current implementation is not able to handle that level of complexity (don't remember the exact message). Wonder if they meant it to be only a proof of concept ?

I've had nothing but issues and hallucinations. Similar to someone else; I told it to develop a mobile-first app using Dart, and it creates code using Python for a web-app. When I ask why it did this, it told me it's still in experimental phase. It also often refuses to implement the generated code for me, stating that it isn't able to. And then I tell it to do it anyway, and it occasionally works. Windsurf has been so much nicer to use, although unfortunately for mobile-app development it seems Windsurf might not be the best choice. Was hopeful that this – capable of using Flutter – AND FREE, would be a good alternative, especially as it's made by Google, but so far it's been an awful experience. I'm not an experienced coder; though I have basic knowledge, but this app definitely isn't where it should be considering it's coming from Google.

lol great first experience with IDX. I gave a TypeScript project, it immediately starts writing Python code?! then proceeds to suggest I make changes to functions with weird names that don't even exist in the project. it's all hallucinations and complete nonsense.

I've been using IDX since early alpha, even back then it was a game changer. I use it religiously because it is free. With 2.0 its pretty good, but I am running it with continue dev and Deepseek v3 which is insane for the clean and concise code it outputs. Obviously always test your code… I think in terms of a setup, this is literally the easiest route for anyone – also the models aren't so great with frontend, so to get you a MVP it is brilliant. Services like creatie will help you with the front end side of things or upload images and go through the pain of iterating on IDX
Does IDX have the same limitations with limited API calls with Gemini 2.0 if used with other IDEs?
