I'm in this exact workflow since Fable has launched.
GPT-5.5 is really good in following orders and the Fable is absolutely phenomenal for planning and helping architecting.
Plan with Fable and then AFK development with GPT 5.5
and then 5.6 drops and the strategy changes again. and then the next thing drops and the strategy changes again. I dunno, man. It's almost like these videos have their own slop output.. just make up new ways to do the AI thing until the next week, make new video on how to do the AI thing.. wait a week.. new INSANE thing. it's getting old.

almost everything i throw at fable bounces me back to opus 4.8, it's hard for me to compare when the model arbitrarily decides what is a fable model level task is i think anthropic is struggling to hold up compute to give us that free taster drug dealer style
Personally I would use Fable for planning and Opus 4.8 or even Sonnet for execution.
good video. coding doesn't need a very intelligent model if you do all the difficult work for it. idea: use the skill "grill me with docs" with a low model to build your pre-plan. then hand that folder to a high model to build your plan including test concepts. then have a medium model slice your plan including research terms and have a different medium model review it. then have a low model do research for the documentation and techniques needed for each slice, and have a different low model review it. then have a low model implement each slice and ask a medium model for code reviews. if a slice uses more than 100k tokens for any model, have the medium model re-slice the biggest-looking 50% of slices to be smaller. periodically have the high model review and enhance your plan runway to make sure it is still on track. AI companies don't want you doing this because it saves you so much money and breaks their app lock-in. you can use whatever free/promo app and model is available at the moment to grill yourself and save the files to disk for the next tool. then you can use a free/cheap codex subscription to build the plan and save the files to disk for the next tool. then you can use a free/cheap opencode/commandcode/etc plan to execute. 3 different serial tasks that can be easily and efficiently split across different services for maximum efficiency and no quota ceiling. when your planning for each slice reaches a certain level of quality on disk, ANY tool can pick it up and continue. Treat AI like a commodity.
I think Claude Sonnet urgently needs an update.
Claude Sonnet 4.6 (max) is far behind in ArtificialAnalysis. It is similar in strength to DeepSeek V4 Pro (Max) which is significantly cheaper.
a new Sonnet model would have to be at least at Qwen3.7 Max level.
Before using my Claude Pro subscription for Sonnet, I prefer to use my Kimi subscription, where the K2.6 model achieves better results.

This is kinda weird–I generally work backwards from this. I use qwen 3.7 plus to do initial research and figure out what files to look at and describe a problem well, and then ask Fable to solve the problem. I didn't find GPT-5.5 was able to code as well, though it's obviously much much better than Qwen.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FABLE 5 ,2 SMALL PROMPTS AND YOUR OUT OF TOKENS FOR 3 HOURS LOL RIDICULOUS
I've found gpt-5.5-xhigh to still be better than fable-5 on xhigh. Yes. Because gpt-5.5-xhigh gets my toughest tasks done faster and follows my instructions much better. I have a new "frustration-level" benchmark which is how much do I want to rip my hair out after a session due to agents not building what I want. Gpt-5.5 is still #1 least frustration. Fable-5 is usable for sure but it's not #1 for me at least

The problem with this is the quality of your code will still go down. Using a dumber model dumbs down your code thus dumbing down the foundation of whatever your building. Not a bad idea I suppose depending on use case but I personally won’t be using this workflow

So, it is about the same level of knowledge as GPT 5.5, only far more expensive and throws tokens and loops at the problem until your trust fund is gone. I will stick with GPT 5.5 thanks. At least there I have a choice as to how long to spend on a problem and how much to spend.
