According to Gemini, the new model in question is Gemini 3.2 Flash that will be fully released at the Google I.O.
I'd say were at an inflection point between this year and 2027. First models like DeepSeek V4 are really pushing Gemini 3.1 & future 3.5 to keep up on efficiency and lower cost with the new quantization update and the release is timely before americans switch to the cheaper alternative to that of the American frontier models. We decide either we have had enough on the delivery of intelligence / cost of compute and how it's being handled that we discard the option of American only models to go with something feasible and equivalent for one's own needs at the risk of things like privacy. Misanthropic Anthropic is causing the exact bifurcation in the market right now with the way they handle models, pricing, and goodwill to users by full on extracting at the excuse of compute constraint where Google with own TPU stack can dictate the market equilibrium and should do so to rival Deepseek's cost efficiency approach in open source. The inflection point is when will Deepseek or other open source models be able to create Mac OS @ 4:44 or similar output. at a fraction of the cost worth justifying the switch or better an approach to local sovereignty. IMO also the major breakthrough in 2026-27 will be the launch of an AI native computer.
I cant wait till normal people are able to create triple A games easily at home.
