'Partially open-source' is doing a lot of work there. What's actually open vs gated? Local-first memory is the right call though.
Rust and Tauri are a solid choice, but I wouldn't call it a Hermes competitor. Hermes executes. OpenHuman integrates. Breadth of connectors isn't autonomous depth.

It's broke back. Super time waster! Half baked, v0.54.0 I installed sort of and ran locally on my Linux with llama.cpp with qwen 3.6. Not currently even close to Hermes. Oh and the previous version was broken too, significantly different UI now too, but totally useless and whats up with wanting my money? Garbage crap poo.
In Hermes Agent you can build this level of memory and real-time life context ingestion using Hindsight as your memory provider. just takes way more planning and setup lol
Forcing everything through their auth framework, especially for MCP to your tools, is a deal breaker. I don’t want their cloud services touching my data.
